2014 Convention

Our state convention was held at the Ala Moana Hotel in Honolulu on April 25-27.  Hosted by the Windward Branch, the theme was HALF THE RAINBOW: Exploring the Challenges and Opportunities for Women in Hawaii.  Based on the book and PBS special Half the Sky, the program for the 2014 convention focused on violence against women, human trafficking, and our responsibility to stay informed so as to assist victims and advocate for change.  Dr. Susan Wurtzburg, UH Manoa, and Dr. Nancie Caraway, First Lady of Hawaii, were our speakers on these topics.

AAUW issues and leadership training were presented by Board Member at Large, Charmen Goehring and Janet Morse, AAUW-Hawaii Leadership Chair.

Even with a focus on serious topics, Windward organizers created an atmosphere of fun and collegiality for attendees, encouraging sharing through branch displays, conversation stones, and table team projects.
